Let's face it, making it in the music industry is difficult enough as is, but there are things that you can do to improve your chances.
The main reason? You're not being polite enough to the people that matter. If you've been around for a while or are just starting up, you should know that bands and venues talk to each other. Even if you have never played with a certain musician or band, if they've been a complete jerk off to every venue owner, bartender, and opening act they've ever had, you'll know about it. And eventually you'll hear less and less about them until no one remembers that they once existed.
Performers are allowed to act like asses on stage, but if you're impolite off stage, you can kiss your career goodbye before it even starts.
It pays to stay polite (literally) and professional at all costs. Being impolite often can predict what you're paid. For example, if you're playing a paid gig and they know that your band is full of jerks, you'll make $150. Whereas, a band that is known for being humble and polite could make around $250. Think about that one for minute.
The bottom line is, you don't like someone, deal with it and keep your mouth shut. If someone blows you off, resist the urge to tell them off. And as mentioned before, if someone takes the time to help (no matter how minuscule the help is), SAY THANK YOU.
The music biz is a smaller place than you think, and your shoddy behavior will come back to haunt you.
