It's pretty clear that I've taken a long break from updating this blog and really having anything to do with the music scene, most of it has to do with being busy but also because there for a while I just completely lost my passion for discovering new music and even playing and singing. So, how'd I crawl out of that terrible hole? How can you get back your passion and continue to thrive in the music world like the badass you are? Check it out -
1. Write a List
Yeah, it sounds lame; but just do it. Sit down and make a list of the reasons you love you music and what your personal goals are for yourself. This will help you remember why you started playing in the first place and might give you a little boost; plus goals give us something to work towards so that can never hurt.
2. Force Yourself
Even though you don't feel like working on your music, do it anyways. Brainstorm lyrics or compositions. Find tabs to other bands songs and just practice to stay in the habit. Don't let yourself ever get completely out of it; once you do it seems even harder to jump back in.
3. Focus on what you are feeling, not what you aren't
When you feel uninspired but feel like you should be feeling passionate and creative, you feel even worse than if you just focused on what you are actually feeling. Sometimes you just can't force creativity. Give yourself a break for a few days - maybe even meditate, you never know what might get those creative juices flowing. 4. Jam Sessions
If you aren't in a band, maybe look for one. Or maybe just look for a group of people to have little jam sessions with. Having this scheduled will make playing fun again and help keep you interested. I find that the more involved I am with projects the more I start to become inspired again; maybe it's what you need too.
5. Go to a local show
Watching other people play music and enjoy themselves may remind you of your passion and may get you thinking about how much you miss and love it.
6. Pinterest
Everyone knows I'm obsessed with Pinterest, but when it comes to a lack of inspiration there are tons of images there that may help; especially if part of your lack of passion comes from writers block. Look at some cool pictures and write what they make you feel, write descriptions for jellyfish if you're a lyricist and then go from there. - you probably get the picture.
